LDS officially launched
The alliance of opposition parties under the banner of Linyon Demokratik Seselwa (LDS) was officially late yesterday at the International Conference Centre in Victoria.
The alliance includes the Seychelles National Party (SN), Lalyans Seselwa (LS), Phlippe Boulle, the independent candidate in the last presidential election, the Seychelles Party for Social Justice and Democracy (SPSJD) and the Seselwa United Party (SUP).
Yesterday’s ceremony was to officially launch the movement and to announce the names of representatives of the 26 districts. The LDS has pointed out that the representatives will not necessarily be the candidates for the forthcoming parliamentary elections. “They will represent the party in their respective districts on Mahe, Praslin and La Digue,” one senior official told TODAY. However, some may be called upon to stand as candidates if necessary.
At the launch yesterday, the head of LSD, Roger Mancienne delivered an impassioned plea for unity and coherence within the LDS. “Unity is strength,” he stressed, adding that the LDS has to carry out a strong campaign for the forthcoming elections for the National Assembly.
He urged all activists of the various groups within the alliance to give their total support to the representatives of districts announced at the gathering.
Mr Mancienne said the formation of the LDS was the beginning of a new era in Seychelles politics. He added that the party will do whatever it takes to ensure that democracy and transparency are rigidly enforced in the country.
Below is the list of LDS representatives of districts as announced by the party’s leadership yesterday.
